Prof. Elisabeth Smela in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of Maryland is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in the area of bioMEMS. The position offers the possibility for a motivated and creative researcher to develop technology for miniaturizing a cell-based sensing system.
Responsibilities will include:
- device design, fabrication, and testing
- bio-assay development with cells and bacteria
- publication in peer-reviewed journals and conferences
The candidate should be interested in interdisciplinary research and be able to work in a team to coordinate efforts with those of electrical engineers, biologists, and others. The candidate must have a PhD. Prior education and experience in the following fields is desirable: analytical chemistry with spectroscopy and assay development experience, microfluidics, dielectrophoresis, and microfabrication. Prior work with polymers, surface functionalization, and cells would be a plus. The individual is expected to have a strong publication record and excellent oral and written communication skills.
